January 2012 Newsletter

Dear friends,
This week the Bellngham Circus Guild lost one of it’s family. Caleb “Flip” Kors, who had been taking lessons from Bellingham Circus Guild members for the last two years and who had touched the hearts of every member of the circus family as well as many in the community at large, passed away Tuesday night. Every one of us has been affected by his passing, and all of us in the Bellingham Circus Guild have all felt very strongly that we would like to assist his family (our family) in every way that we can. Keeping Flip’s memory alive as we practice and perform, keeping in touch with his family as they navigate through their mourning, and providing them with financial support as they pay for the medical bills associated with the accident and rebuild their lives aftewards are just a few of the things we can do. In this light we are donating all of the proceeds from our upcoming Vaudvillingham to the Kors family. We will also be holding a benefit show at some point in the near future in Flip’s name.

Further donations can be made to the family here. Condolences can be left here.

Thank you,
Stef

AUGUST EVENTS!

The circus is super busy this month even with many of our members traveling with NOTC, and elsewhere around the world!

We finished last month on the 31st with the Co-Op party in boulevard park. Our August events are as follows:

August 6th - We will be performing at the chalk arts festival in downtown Bellingham! http://www.fifthonsixth.com/ is hosting the festival there. So if you’re walking around we’ll probably be across the corner from Rocket Donuts parking lot! This is a volunteer function  so feel free to support us in the hat ;) .

August 9th – The BCG will have a few performers at the Cornwall Park Neighborhood Association annual picnic in Broadway park from 5:30pm – 8:00pm. If you like picnics and want to see some circus and listen to some Gallus brothers come by! http://cornwallpark.org/

August 12th-14th – Subdued Stringband Jamboree~! Many of the BCG’s members will be performing all weekend at this event!
http://stringbandjamboree.com/2011/index.php

August 15th – The NOTC should be back and our wonderful vaudevillingham will explode! Be sure to check out the lab at 2107 Iron st. There is an 8:00pm and a 10:00pm show! Get there early, we sold out last month!

August 20th - BEE the Change
August 20th 7pm

Honeybees are disappearing about 30% every year. Yikes! Honeybees pollinate 30% of the food we eat. Yowsa!

Why are the bees disappearing? Pesticides, malnutrition, mobile beekeeping, GMOs, electromagnetic radiation… theories abound.

What do we do? We learn about it! You can spend some time snuggled up with google… OR come see a night of bee inspired circus and clips from the movie Vanishing of the Bees! Circus and Activism… Cirque-tivism!! All proceeds from the show will go towards supporting local beekeeping and local agriculture.
